Sphalerite

Corrantee Mine, Lochaber, Highland Region, Scotland

418

The remotest of the Strontian mines, Corrantee was prospected for zinc in the 1950's but nothing came of it.  Sphalerite crystals occur here but usually later calcite needs to be dissolved off to expose the crystals.  This specimen shows aggregated and single sharply formed crystals investing a thin rock matrix.
