Long Marton, Cumbria, England
35
The Eden Valley gypsum (selenite) mines produced this interesting form of gypsum with stellate groups of crystals formed around seeding points creating attractive flower like patterns - 'Daisy Bed' gypsum.
This specimen has large 35mm diameter 'flowers' and clearly shows the seeding crystal. The mines around Long Marton are long close and specimens with this unusual form are quite rare now.
