Barras End mine, Gunnerside, Swaledale, Yorkshire, England

At Barras End mine in Swaledale a unusual form of banded barytes occurs that takes a high polish and is reminiscent of the more famous material from Derbyshire. This specimen is a 20mm thick polished section showing the patterning with a small area of galena.
