Strontian Mine, Strontian, Western Lochaber, Highland Region, Scotland
521
Sphalerite is not unusual at Strontian mine but crystals have always been difficult to find. This specimen is unusually rich with a bed of well formed 2-3mm sphalerite crystals pleasing 'topped-of' with disc shaped crystals of calcite. Calcite fluoresces red and yellow. Calcite crystals have also fomed on the back of the specimen but here they are scalenohedrons!
