Stellerite

A850 Roadcut, Edinbane, Waternish, Isle of Skye, Scotland

2666

The Isle of Skye is well known for its zeolite mineralisation including Stellerite although this orthorhombic member of the Stilbite group has only been found at one location on the island. This specimen, part of the original 1980 find, was found when a new road cutting was being put through on the A850 just outside Edinbane.  On this specimen the stellerite forms sprays of lustrous cream coloured crystals with rounded terminations.
