The Shetland Isles has an unusual geology, producing mineral species that our rare in the rest of the British Isles. Hagdale quarry was worked for Chromite in the 19th century but the quarry (nearby the later serpentine workings) has now been filled in. This specimen from Hagdale shows a rich 28mm wide vein of dark coarsely crystallised chromite.
