Sphalerite

Scraithole Mine, Carrshield, West Allendale, Northumberland, England

1076

Sphalerite is quite common in the mines of Alston Moor, but only occasionally do specimens from Scraithole mine come on the market. The mine was worked for a short while in the 1970's and this specimen was collected then. The sphalerite crystals are sharp and lustrous pleasingly contrasting with the crystalline quartz covered matrix.
