Sphalerite is quite common in the mines of Alston Moor, but only occasionally do specimens from Scraithole mine come on the market. The mine was worked for a short while in the 1970's and this specimen was collected then. The sphalerite crystals are sharp and lustrous pleasingly contrasting with the crystalline quartz covered matrix.
