Beaumont Mine, Allenheads, Northumbria, England
1036
Bought from the mine head in the 1970's, British Steel Corporation having sunk a new drift mine close to the village of Allenheads to work the veins in that area for fluorspar. This specimen is a choice example of the fluorite/siderite combinations that came from the Allenheads area - twinned pale purple crystals set on a bed of brown well crystallised siderite. Ex. E. Smithson collection. Close inspection shows a couple of small dings but hardly discernable.
